November 2024: Congratulations to Dr. Ying Peng on defending her Ph.D. thesis. Ying is the second Ph.D. in the lab.

November 2024: Congratulations to Cameron Bryan on her new publication in ChemBioChem. Cameron characterized OGG1-DPC and determined that OGG1 cross-links to the incised AP site via cysteine and histidine addition.

October 2024: Congratulations to Dr. Xiaoying Wei on defending her Ph.D. thesis. Xiaoying is the first Ph.D. in the lab. Best of luck at Asieris Pharmaceuticals!

August 2024: Bingru Li and Peixin Wang joined the lab. Both Bingru and Peixin are first year CBMC graduate students. Welcome!

July 2024: The Yang lab received an R35 (MIRA) Award from the NIGMS. This 5-year MIRA will support our research program that is focused on DNA-protein cross-links (DPCs).

February 2024: Congratulations to Cameron for receiving the 2024-2025 University Graduate Continuing Fellowship.

January 2024: Joel Cepeda joined the lab. Joel is the first year CBMC graduate student. Welcome Joel.

January 2024: Congratulations to Ying Peng's publication in Chemical Research in Toxicology Ying developed a LC-MS/MS workflow to characterize 3'-histone-DPCs and showed that these adducts are endogenous DNA lesions in HEK293T cells.

August 2023: Xiaoying, Cameron, and Ying presented their work in 2023 Fall ACS meeting. Both Xiaoying and Cameron won the Outstanding Oral Presentation Award from TOXI. Congratulations!

May 2023: Congratulations to Ying Peng's publication in Bioconjugate Chemistry. Ying developed a chemical approach to synthesize stable and site-specific 3'-end DNA-histone cross-links, and demonstrated that the DPC repair efficiency is highly affected by the local protein environment, and prior DPC proteolysis facilitates the repair.

April 2023: Congratulations to Xiaoying Wei's publication in Biochemistry. Xiaoying demonstrated that Poly [ADP-ribose] polymerase 1 incises abasic sites and covalently cross-links to 3′-DNA termini via cysteine addition not reductive amination.

April 2023: Congratulations to Cameron Bryan's publication in DNA Repair. Cameron showed that apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease 1 repairs abasic site-mediated DNA-peptide/protein cross-links.

February 2023: Congratulations to Xiaoying for receiving the 2023-2024 University Graduate Continuing Fellowship.
